10 Things to Do in Denver This Weekend, That Don't Totally Suck

Things to do in Denver

It's the weekend, FINALLY! It's supposed to be sunny and warm, so get out and enjoy life at a mile high!

FRIDAY
Banff Mountain Film Festival
$22.50
No need to travel all the way to Banff (it's in Canada) to see their annual showcase of outdoor-related cinema. They are bringing the festival to us! This weekend, the Paramount Theatre will be showing this year's films, and hopefully inspiring you to get outside. All proceeds benefit the Colorado Mountain Club's efforts in recreation, education, and conservation.
More info and tix right here.
Wild Women Comedy Show
$25
This week has been long (why?!?!) and you deserve to laugh it off. This comedy show, featuring local fave Christie Buchele, includes a much needed glass of wine in the ticket price. Laughs and wine, sounds ideal to us.

RENT - 20th Anniversary Tour
$20++
Raise a glass, and bet your ass to La Vie Boheme! The Broadway show that broke records in 1996 is in town for the weekend at the Buell Theater. The music, the story, the whole thing is just so damn iconic, you should see it while you can.

SATURDAY

Coffeehaus Grand Opening
cost of coffee
Sunnyside (formerly known as northside) has a brand new coffee shop/cidery, Waldschanke Ciders & Coffee. Those two totally go together! Take a stroll through one of Denver's emerging neighborhoods, and maybe even check out a few other local shops (there are tons!) with your caffeine in hand. And, a purchase of coffee in the AM will get you a free cier taster later that night. We may spend all day there.
More info here.
Arvada Winterfest
free
It's going to be a very un-wintry weekend, and a perfect time to have some fun outdoors. Check out live music, performances, food and family-friendly activities at McIlvoy park in Arvada on Saturday. There's seriously something for everyone at this festival.
More info here!
Winter Craft Beer Festival
$45-$65
Yep, another winter festival, but this one's all about the beer. CU's Balch Fieldhouse in Boulder will play host to hundreds of beers for a few hours on Saturday. Admission includes samples, a souvenir glass and a silent disco. If you need more time with the brews, a VIP ticket will get you an extra hopur of sipping. This event is 21+

SUNDAY

Yoga and Brunch at True Food Kitchen
free (the yoga part)
We don't always make the healthiest choices on the weekend (see the many alcohol-related entries in this post). Change it up with a morning dedicated to wellness. This yoga class, led by CorePower, is totally free and will help you find your center, which you might have lost last night. Then, anyone who wants to stay for a helth-conscious brunch will get a 15% discount! Namaste.
Register for class here.
2020 Denver Polar Plunge
$35-$75
It's gonna be in the 50's on Sunday, so this plunge barely qualifies as polar. Jump into some cold water, and/or run a 5k to support the Special Olympics. Not only is it a physical challenge (and who doesn't want more of those?) but it's for a good cause.
Info on the polar-ish plunge here.
Denver Fashion Week Model Casting Call
free
Time to binge-watch a hundred episodes of America’s Next Top Model and convince yourself it’s YOU that should be walking the runway! Anyone 17+ is welcome to come down to McNichols building on Sunday and audition for a chance to walk in Denver Fashion Week. It’s not a paying job, but everyone starts somewhere!
Register here (not everyone will get a chance to walk).
Euchre Tournament and Social
$20
You've been dealt two black jacks, an ace of spades, a queen and a nine. Are you going alone? If you know what ANY of this means, you should probably show up for Wood Boss Brewing Co's Euchre tournament at 1:00. It's cool if you don't have a partner, but you should probably know a little bit about the game. This is technically a Purdue Alumni event, but any and all Euchre fans are welcome.
Get dealt in here.
